Ii set this wedding cake up at the Loose Cannon Art Gallery recently. I love the venue, but it's always dark in there. Their one of the reasons I invested in a bounce flash for the camera. This is one of the pictures with the bounce and I thought it turned out pretty good. As with all my photography skills, I still have a LOT to learn!!
This cake is mostly buttercream with some fondant accents. And silver dragees! Oh the dragees!! Seriously, I really love the look of the edible pearls and the silver dragees, but I have to put them on JUST before I deliver the cake, which depending on the delivery schedule for the day, can be a real pain.
The florists were setting up as I was delivering the cake. There is supposed to be a lot of roses below the top tier, but they were running short and had t go back to the shop. They did let me play with the3 they had left to get a semi-decent shot.
Nothing technically new or terribly difficult going on here. I did use my Cricut Cake on the monogram (man I LOVE that thing!!)
Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!!
Rose Seperator Cake with Monogram
Rock'em Sock'em Grooms Cake
We used hot glue, floral wire, and skewers to create "extenders" on the posts and the robots so that we could seat them in the cake properly. Now that I think of it, this may have been where I came up with my monogram extension method I mentioned some time ago.
The most fun part of this cake was making the bride and groom outfits for the robots. The groom's tux is made from that foamy construction paper stuff and the bride's outfit is made from genuine faux pearls and some netting for the veil. Here's a closer view:
Pearls, Pearls, Pearls!
This 5 tiered beauty was monstrously large though. I deliver all my cakes in my hatchback, and this thing barely fit in there. To beat it all, on the way to the clubhouse (which is riddled with cake-killing speed bumps) this lady rode my bumper almost the whole way there. She finally did get close enough that she saw the cake and backed off, but it still made a stressful drive even more so, and unnecessarily at that!
I have magnetic car signs on my door that advertise my business, but I have often thought about getting a sign for the rear of car that says something like "Cake Delivery Vehicle". Do any of you use anything like that on your delivery vehicles? If so, what wording did you use??
Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!!
Koi Wedding Cake
Sometimes, when I'm looking for inspiration, especially for my dummy or show cakes, I turn towards treasures like these. Some time ago, I bought some silicone molding compound and used her earrings and brooch to make molds so that I could use them on a Styrofoam showcake.
At the last bridal show I had a bride that just went bonkers over that "fish" cake. She loved everything about it. We booked a consultation, went through the whole design process and in the end she still wanted that as her wedding cake. Professionally I took it as a real compliment that she liked it just the way it was. I love it when I can have that type of connection with a client.
So I recreated that dummy cake for her. I molded and painted, the fish, applied the sugar pearls to make "bubbles" and even added some "crystal doomies" to the top to give a water spray effect. We even placed it on our aquarium cake stand to add to the aquatic effect. The venue we took it to was very dark and our pictures didn't turn out very well at all, so I know you're missing out on all the effects.
Diamond Monogram Wedding Cake
While this is essentially a very basic, albeit elegant wedding cake, it probably took me longer than any cake I did that week. I did begin by using an impression mat to mark my diamonds on the cake, but then it was out with the spatula and the blowtorch to cut each line into the cake. After that was done, a small pearl dragee was placed at each intersecting line.
So far, I am loving the buttercream Fondarific. It works well as fondant, works fabulously in my Cricut Cake machine, and matches my buttercream perfectly. In this case, I cut a circle from that Fondarific and used a small sculpting knife to trace over the "M", creating a faint impression. Then I piped layers of buttercream to build up the monogram.
As always, thanks for stopping by and listening to me ramble on about cake and have a great weekend!!
Merry Christmas from Cup a Dee Cakes!
Hi all! First off, I hope you all are having a very Merry Christmas! I woke up early to find that jolly ol' Saint Nick left me some real treats under the tree! I don't know if I was THAT good!
This wedding cake goes along with the groom's cake from the last post. The Chattanoogan ballroom was decked out in full holiday trim and I thought putting the cake in front of the Christmas tree would really make it pop!
This cake is an elegant buttercream cake covered in buttercream dots, along with edible pearls and gold dragees. Te couple opted for cream cheese icing, which is SO tasty, but it weighs a TON! This was easily the heaviest wedding cake we have ever delivered in one piece.
The bride came up with the lights and the christmas ornaments that surrounded the cake. It was really a beautiful event!
