Cricut Cake is on the way!
I have been watching YouTube videos from some of the folks that had advanced access to the machine and it looks very impressive and it looks like it could really cut a lot of labor time off of certain types of wedding cakes. Also, I want my bakery to be known as staying on the leading ledge of technology and offer my customers the very best (that's what I told my husband.... shhhh)!
I promise to give you guys a proper rundown and evaluation as soon as I get it in and get it unpacked. Maybe even a tutorial if you're interested?
UPDATE: My Cricut Cake arrived on Tuesday (4/20), so look forward to my thoughts on it real soon (maybe Tuesday). So far, I LOVE it!
Chattanooga City Scope Magazine
Several days later I got a call that really made my day. It was City Scope magazine and they were asking if several of my cakes were buttercream or fondant. They thought it was buttercream, but they were so smooth they thought it could be fondant. Now you all know that I go the extra mile to make my buttercream smooth as silk so I was especially glad that their staff noticed and felt the need to confirm.
So over the weekend I get a copy of the magazine in the mail and they did feature one of my cakes. They also post their issues online, so if you would like to read the article, just click here.
Thanks for stopping by!
DeLorean Cake Featured on GreatWhiteSnark!
Last week, we had the great honor of having one of our cakes featured on another blog, GreatWhiteSnark.com! If you're not familiar GreatWhiteSnark, they feature cool things that are "geeky" in nature (Star Wars, Star Trek, etc.). A while back, we blogged about the DeLorean cake we did for our friends wedding. Chad submitted it to GreatWhiteSnark and they said they would love to share it with their readers.
Click here to see their blog post, but I wanted to share a little more with my readers. I dug through the Cup a Dee Cake Archives and found a few pictures of the DeLorean cake "in progress". Without further ado, here are some pictures you won't find on GWS, they are a Cup a Dee Cakes exclusive!!

My Happy 101 Award
Wedding Filmed By TLC!
Faithful readers of my blog will surely remember that just last week I mentioned that one of my weddings was being filmed by TLC's Say Yes to the Dress. I made the delivery on Saturday and everything went off without a hitch, but I am sad to report that I did not get to meet any of the TLC staff or see any of their crew. As usual, everyone's off getting married while we were setting up the cakes! I did hear back from a friend of mine that attended. She said that the cakes were filmed and pictures were taken. I usually only hope my cakes don't end up on the floor; now I have to worry about them ending up on the cutting room floor! TLC told my "insider" that the episode should air in late September to early October. I will let you know more when I find out!
My bride in this wedding was in a wheelchair and thus wanted to make sure the cake did NOT tower over her, so we opted to do a small 8" cake on each table and then a smaller bride's and groom's cake as the main centerpiece. It was held in the ballroom at the beautiful Sheraton Read House in Chattanooga, TN.
The groom was a big LSU fan, so we recreated the LSU Eye of the Tiger Fleur de Lis just for him. We cut the shapes of the fondant and pieced them back together like it was a big cake jigsaw puzzle. It was very difficult to do, and sometime around midnight we began to kick ourselves for going that route, but when it was finished we were glad we went the extra mile.I must admit that with a total of 31 cakes to deliver and setup that it was definitely the most complicated setup I have had to date. It took us 2 hours to get everything setup and JUST right. Even logistically getting all those cakes there (in one piece) was a feat.
