In this new anthology to be unleashed October of this year, thirty of the world’s greatest chefs share outrageous true tales of culinary catastrophes. Don't Try This At Home : Kitchen Disasters and Memorable Mishaps from the World's Greatest Cooks and Chefs features stories from José Andrés, Mario Batali, Rick Bayless, Daniel Bouloud, Anthony Bourdain, Jimmy Bradley, Terrance Brennan, Scott Bryan, Tamasin Day-Lewis, Wylie Dufresne, Todd English, Gabrielle Hamilton, Fergus Henderson, Michael Lomonaco, Pino Luongo, Alfred Portale, Eric Ripert, Marcus Samuelsson and others.
One story in particular caught my attention...the one contributed by Chef Michel Richard. In "The Alibi", Chef Richard recounts a wedding cake disaster that tops all others. I have never read such a sordid tale of cake deception. Reader beware: If you were present at an upscale Beverly Hills wedding sometime in the 80's and ate from a wedding cake that looked more like a giant strawberry shortcake, you may want to refrain from reading "The Alibi".
