In my family, birthdays are all about the cake. That's because we have not just one, but three cake decorators in the family. Me and both my sister-in-laws love decorating cakes. Before each birthday celebration, there are some serious cake discussions. Who will be making the cake? What will the theme be? How will it be done? What flavor will the cake be? Can I borrow this pan? Come the day of the party, the first thing everyone wants to see when they walk in the door is the cake.
Yesterday it was my brother's turn to play second fiddle to the cake as we celebrated his birthday with a pool party at his house. It was decided that his wife, Kat, would make his cake this year. She made a swimming pool party cake with Teddy Graham guests. My other sister-in-law, Elizabeth, was quick to point out that one Teddy Graham was swimming nude. Kat had been working on the cake late into the night and got tired of piping on little swim suits. She said she never wants to eat another Teddy Graham. Apparently, as she was decorating, she ate the ones that didn't pass inspection. The kids favorite part was the Skittle tiles which they picked off one by one. Fun was had by all and the cake was delicious!
