Recently I have been reading this book entitled “Mother Teresa, Come Be My Light”. It's a hardcover book from the Singapore’s National Library Board. It contains 362 pages. I usually don’t enjoy such a thick book. I am a graphic designer by profession and I prefer looking at images to reading from wordy materials.
I was only halfway through the book when it was due to be returned. Thankfully, when I made a second trip to the library to renew book, my wish was granted free of charge.
I am so touched reading her life story and her ministry. Infact I was moved to tears countless times! How close is her relationship with Jesus and how totally she had abandoned herself to Him!
I want to extract a couple of lines so that after I have returned the book, I can still remember how the Lord has blessed me through it.
"Don't look for big things, just do small things with great love....The smaller the thing, the greater must be our love." - Mother Teresa
"[Her union with Jesus] gave her freedom which made her independent of praise and blame. When great honours were poured on her all over the world it did not affect her in the least. She had abandoned everything to God, her whole being. This was the intimate lifespring of her spirituality...." - Father Neuner about Mother Teresa
"My dear children -- without our suffering, our work would just be social work, very good and helpful, but it would not be the work of Jesus Christ, not part of the redemption" - Mother Teresa
“The darker the darkness the sweeter will be my smile at God” - Mother Teresa
"Are we so given to Him -- that we find His eyes look through ours, His tongue speaking, His Hands working, His feet walking, His Heart loving?" - Mother Teresa
Even in intense suffering, Mother Teresa’s sense of humor did not fail her, and she could be impish in expressing her manner of following Jesus through the darkness. “I can do only one thing, like a little dog follow closely the Master’s footsteps. Pray that I be a cheerful dog,” she wrote to Father Picachy.
“I have nothing to say – nor have I the ability or the learning you need to speak to future priests. My Sisters are me – so I need not look for big learned words. – I just open my heart – and He talks.” – Mother Teresa
“As for me – thank God we have been told to follow Christ. – As I have not to go ahead of Him, even in darkness the path is sure. When some days are above the average – I just stand like a very small child and wait patiently for the storm to subside….” – Mother Teresa
