Kelly from Life with 2 Super Heros hosted such a creative art party for her son! She packed a whole lot of art into one awesome party!!!
Here are her cute invites.
First, each child got to mix their own drink. Her son actually had this idea. She found these plastic VOSS water bottles and the labels just peeled right off. Then she modge-podged their names on.
The kids loved this project. Of course, all of the drinks turned out brown but that didn't seem to bother the kids!
I love that the messiest projects were done in the garage. Birthdays are fun but they can wreak havoc on your house if you're not careful :)
Next, the kids got to create their own trail mix.She had cashews, sunflower seeds, peanuts, fruity cheerios, several varieties of M&Ms, chocolate chips, and butterscotch chips. Some kids carefully layered their mix into a masterpiece, and some spooned and shook the whole way through!
The trail mix jars. Paint splatter name tags with some more modge podge.
The next activity was Picasso imitation. Kelly had a poster print of Starry Night divided into 15 equal squares. Each child was assigned a square on the painting and tasked with duplicating that square on his/her own piece of paper. How fun is this!?!

The birthday party interpretation. I LOVE it!!!
The next activity was marble painting. She (obviously) used marbles and had bought frames at the dollar store. Each kid got a cup and a few marbles. They dropped the marbles in the cup with some paint and then rolled them around in the picture frame.Kelly, you are a brave woman!
Next, it was out in the garage again for tie dyeing.Kelly had purchased drawstring backpacks from Oriental Trading for the kids to rubber-band-up.Her and her husband were in charge of the dye (who knows what 13 kids with dye-filled-squirt bottles would lead to!).

Finally, they let each kids decorate their own cake. They sang Happy Birthday first so that whenever the kids got done they could start eating instead of having to look longingly at their cake and wait for everyone to get done. Smart momma!

Since her son's birthday is at the beginning of January and he had received so many wonderful toys for Christmas, he asked that kids not bring gifts for him. Instead, he wanted them to bring art supplies to donate to the local children's hospital. How incredible is that??? That is my favorite idea :)
They ended the party with a quick play-dough sculpture game, so each kid left with his new water bottle, snack mix jar, marble painting, and play-dough. She kept the backpacks to wash and then delivered them later with thank you notes that included the kids' version of Picasso.
What an amazing party! So many ideas :) To read Kelly's post and see more pictures and info go HERE.
