12-year-old Eric Dodson of Hampstead, Maryland won the grand champion ribbon at the Carroll County 4-H/FFA Fair this week for a cake that sold for $3,000 at the fair's annual cake auction. Eric beat out over 400 other entries with his lemon/lime soda cake. The cake, also known as Sierra Mist Cake, won Kylie Floeck a 4-H division grand champion ribbon at a county fair last August. Here's the recipe for this 2 time grand champion, $3000 cake.
SIERRA MIST CAKE
3 sticks margarine
3 cups sugar
5 eggs
3 cups flour
2 tablespoons lemon extract
3⁄4 cup Sierra Mist
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream margarine and sugar for two minutes. Add eggs one at a time. Add flour, then lemon extract. Lastly, fold in Sierra Mist. Pour into greased and floured bundt cake pan. Bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes. Let cool for 10 additional minutes after baking.
